I just want to say, I love Anne McCaffrey, and I have loved these books since I was a little girl. And I still like to re-read them. But this kindle edition is so rife with typographical errors and omitted words it literally drives me batty, and at moments, it's almost painful to read through because of it. This is one that I really think needs a better go through by an editor. It's a darn shame, really, because those errors didn't exist in the print versions I had, and they really do disrupt the flow of the story.Tags : DRAGONSONG (Harper Hall Trilogy) [Anne McCaffrey] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers.,Anne McCaffrey,DRAGONSONG (Harper Hall Trilogy),Aladdin Paperbacks,141692499X,Animals - Dragons, Unicorns & Mythical,Fantasy & Magic,Dragons;Fiction.,Dragons;Juvenile fiction.,Pern (Imaginary place);Juvenile fiction.,CHILDREN'S FICTION FANTASY,Children's BooksAges 9-12 Fiction,Children: Grades 4-6,Dragons,Fiction,Fiction-Fantasy,JUVENILE,JUVENILE FICTION Animals Dragons, Unicorns & Mythical,Juvenile Fiction,Juvenile Fiction Fairy Tales & Folklore General,Juvenile Fiction Fantasy & Magic,Juvenile Fiction Legends, Myths, Fables Other,Juvenile Grades 4-6 Ages 9-11,Monograph Series, any,Pern (Imaginary place),Science Fiction, Fantasy, & Magic,United States
DRAGONSONG Harper Hall Trilogy Anne McCaffrey 9781416924999 Books Reviews
I have been reading and rereading this book ever since I was lucky enough to find Anne McCaffrey's books. It is, I suppose what would now be called 'YA' but, like many such ( unless you insist on sex and violence) well worth reading. Set in the world of Pern, a society which has regressed into a feudal- based life partly because of the need to counter a repeating deadly menace from space ( deadly 'threads' not tentacular beings) the story centers on Menolly. She lives in a fishing community but is musically gifted. Denied the chance to develop her gift because she is a girl, she runs away only to find herself in deadly peril from a fall of thread. Pern has Dragons who work with chosen humans to combat thread. Menoll finds some miniature dragons in the cave she shelters in and in helping them finds a purpose and eventually her destiny. A feel good story which is part of a larger story line but can satisfactorily stand alone. Highly recommended for anyone of any age who loves music and wishes for friendly dragons.
The Pern series of books have never disappointed me. I loved them the first time I read them, when they were first written and I love them even more now. If you have never read anything by Anne McCaffrey, do yourself a favor and read these books. I have no doubt you will enjoy them, but be careful, they are published all over the place. It starts with Dragonflight, then Dragonquest, Dragonsong, Dragonsinger, The White Dragon and then Dragondrums. At least, I think that 's right. Some of the action is going on simultaneously in two of the books at one time. This series is not for people who have trouble understanding complicated plots. I want a firelizard!
The Harper Hall series is amazing! At first I was apprehensive, as it's not directly about the dragon riders you learn to know and love from the first books in the Pern series. I wasn't sure if it would pull me in the way the first books have. However, the writing is captivating and it fills in blanks left by previous books. Absolute must read for fans of the Pern world created by Anne McAffrey.
This book plays off what we already know and happens along side the same timelines as the first two books in the series Dragonflight The first novel in The Dragonriders of Pern and Dragonquest Volume II of The Dragonriders of Pern and as well as The White Dragon Volume III of The Dragonriders of Pern. Reading those makes this book much more enjoyable and unravels pieces of a puzzle laid out by Anne McAffrey.
This is the first book in the Harper Hall series. It introduces us to Menolly and her story. Wonderful book! I was completely hooked within minutes and found myself sneaking any time I could to continue with Menolly on her adventures.

This book follows Piemur, who we also meet in The White Dragon Volume III of The Dragonriders of Pern and ties in quite nicely with that book. Menolly does make appearances as well as many other prominent characters from previous books but the main focus is on Piemur and how he came to be who and what he is. Great book!
1/2 star for the version; 10 stars for the Book version!
I think must have used a first-Turn apprentice to copy the version from the Book because the version is full of misspellings, omitted words, and even omitted lines of text. It is difficult at best to make complete sense of the reading, without having the Book to use as a backup ... which almost negates the purpose of having a . I have found that this incomplete copying problem is consistent for the entire Pern series; I am most disappointed!
The Book is fantastic ... buy the Book!
