Eleven Sundays is a journey from the heart and mind of a twentysomething woman who has suffered a series of losses. The forks in the road, the choices she makes, the search for renewal and redemption, not only change the direction of her life, but the woman within.

Shaw has written a compelling story of the people in two unalike locations who personally touch Annie's life and open her eyes to a new and better future. Mystical. The beautiful, and often spiritual, descriptions of Drake's Valley, and her exceptionally well-drawn characters and situations, make this debut novel a must read.

The souplady (bonelady to a three young boys searching for adventure and intrigue) is like no character I've read before. The main character, Annie, will steal your heart. After the dramatic climax, I found myself reading slowly, not wanting it to end. I hope this author is a fast writer--I can't wait for the next book.

Eleven Sundays Alonna Shaw 9781480299375 Books Reviews

When I started reading Eleven Sundays I couldn't put it down. I almost cried when I was done.
This is a must read book. Eleven Sundays
Nice reminder to get back to the basics of good relationships and taking time to enjoy the simple things life offers.
A great read that challenges the mind and encourages the journey. This book was wonderfully written by a first time author. She has a wonderful future ahead of her and I can't wait for the next book!
It started a little slow, but you soon get into the scenery and the old woman's wisdom. A lot to learn from this boook!!!
Eleven Sundays is a book that not only inspires but reaches deep and touches the soul. It made me laugh, cry and search my own soul for lost answers. The relatable characters drew me in at the beginning and keep me there until the end. It brings you to a place we have all been and shares a little wisdom for what lies ahead, with just enough magic to get through it all. "Warms the Soul" Thank you for such a wonderful book!
This was one of those books that stayed with me all day until I got home to read more and I can't even tell you why. I loved Annie's journey and if she were real I would to go to San Francisco to have a cup of coffee with her and find out how she's doing now. The simple accepting friendship she found with the soup lady( we never even find out her name) with her warm and nurturing soup, kind actions, and wise words is something every person should have as they go through grief. It's one of those books that I miss now that it's done.
This is a contemporary novel of loss, remembrance and self-acceptance. It is a reminder that we come of age many times over the course of our lives. No matter how messy and confusing the journey and provisional the resolutions, Eleven Sundays affirms that self-discovery and becoming is a quiet adventure worth undertaking.

Twentysomething Annie's life falls apart. The comfortable assumptions that give meaning to her identity - the boyfriend, the career with its promise of raises and promotions, the automatic espresso maker, the core relationship that supports her - one by one slowly unravel, leaving her bereft and dangling. The story shifts between San Francisco's sleek, go-go world and the slower pace of a ramshackle village on Marin's coast. With the help of the Souplady, Annie learns to loosen her grip.

"Thinking of what you should do is a hat on your head. People confuse the hat with their head . . . .What you do comes from the inside, not from anything worn on the outside."

The crisp, sometimes lyrical, always acutely observed writing propels the story forward. Even the secondary characters are drawn with a generous honesty that makes them dimensional, convincing, real.

Having finished this story several months ago, I was prompted to write a review after looking through my list of summer reading. What one story of the many has stayed and resonated with me the most? Eleven Sundays. This deceptively simple story has stayed with me in a way that I could never have imagined. Anyone who is looking for a mindful, charming, sometimes bungling companion on their own life journeys, I would encourage you to meet Annie of Eleven Sundays.
