Meribeth has been the assistant to a few Alliance personnel, but Negotiator Kao is her latest boss. At his insistence, she had gills installed to enable her to accompany him on wet assignments, but his ulterior motive was not clear until he is out of the armour and his own body is finally exposed.
Vehn Kao has spent years encased in armour as a Negotiator, but the moment he comes out and sees Meribeth with his own eyes he knows that she is everything that he has ever wanted in a woman. She is intelligent, witty, attractive and has a tremendous passion just below the surface that he wants to bring out in an explosive release.
Meri wants to be good at her job and Vehn want to take her calm and shake her up.

THE GOOD: Meribeth is an assistant & empath to Negotiator Kao. The Synopsis is a little off the mark. Kao had those gills installed with a purpose in mind before he removed his suit (kindle location 697)However,the author does a really great job on world building and manages to write good characters that I enjoyed reading about. This is a new take on Mer people and a world I would like to visit. Good JobTHE BAD: Kao doesn't have to work for Meribeth or her affections and he should have to. This is a sci fi romance but there is no build up. Sorry No Spoilers! When Meribeth learns of a personal negotiation Kao needs her to do for him, her initial reaction is to pull back.My though is YES! This is the perfect opportunity to build up sexual tension, drama and suspense the story is lacking, but it last one sentence. There are several of these examples in this story that just left me feeling disappointed in the character and not interested in the outcome. The point of a HEA is there is a struggle to get to it. That is what is missing here. I just wasn't invested in Meribeth at all.

Price- To high for length or quality of product
Sex- Spicy rated R to mild Erotic

Very interesting story, just wish it was longer. The story grabbed your attention right from the start. Had a hard time putting my kiindle down and getting back to work.
this was an OK book but it was not long enough, if felt unfinished but i was ok for a short story
All of the books in this series are fun and spicy reading with interesting twists to add to the mix. Good fun.
As I started to read this book I thought, okay great now here's something new, but then the more I read the more I found her characters unbelievable and the story rushed. I would read another one of Viola Grace's books in the future but I won't go looking for one specifically by her.
f you like mer people, you should like this science fiction romance short story. There is all a nice exploration of skin hunger in the romance as well.
A lovely way to spend the afternoon.
Meri had talent for keeping everyone calm. She worked in tandem with a negotiator from a water planet. Terran Times announced that she had discovered that she was a salt water mermaid.
I loved this story. It brought out the stories of old told here on Earth of the mermaids, selkies and kelpies. At first I wasn't real thrilled with Vehn Kao's character but after reading of his people's history his attitude and ways of thinking made more sense. I really liked Meribeth or Meri's character. Her ability to calm others so they could engage in a more cohesive negotiation or situation. She should have used it on Vehn when they were first entering their relationship and he might have been more forthright in his intentions but they did make a nice couple. Adding a child to the mix was a nice change since we see more romance and all before the children enter the picture than after. The characters were well developed and I loved where the story took us, especially towards the end.
